My client wanted something washable for her couch, she decided to do a drop cloth slipcover. She needed something washable because her cat loves the back cushions! I cut off the attached back cushions, so I could cover them separately. Much better fit that way.
She chose to use a drop cloth for her fabric. Forgive the basement lighting, it’s hard to photograph in.
We kept it simple with no skirt.
She had some AMAZING family heirloom linens (runners, table cloths, napkins, etc.), Her designer talked her into taking them out of the trunk and letting me cut them up and make pillows. Better to get some use out of them and enjoy them, then keep them boxed up.
She was absolutely thrilled with the outcome and the option to take it off and wash it.
SIDE NOTES–I am booked until Decemeber. Get on my list if you want something slipcovered before Christmas! I have a few spots left.

Wow! I’ve been using the drop cloths to protect my sofas from the dogs. I’ve been wanting to make them into slipcovers. Question concerning the attached pillows. Did you place fabric on the back of the sofa to cover holes and add fabric to back of existing pillows? I have a sofa will pillows attached to sofa. I would have a hole if I detach pillows.

I cut off cushions on the cushion side of the seam, so I didn’t leave a hole in the back of the couch. Then I covered those cushions separately and took off the old cover.

Hi Shelley ! Happy New Year ! I love this slip cover ! I am not a fan of the skirts, ruffles, pleats, etc… just plain simple is the name of my game. I have seen many slipcovers made with drop cloths on the Internet, but most of them have that “dirtier”, linen/dingy/greyish look. This one almost looks cleaner/white. What was the brand of drop cloth that you used ? And also – do you have this specific tutorial (no ruffles/skirts/pleats) on your DVD ? I have the exact same couch (T-cushions with attached back cushions), but it’s a 3 seater. I would buy the DVD if I knew that this tutorial is on there. Thanks so much !

I bought the drop cloth from Home Depot–it was the highest oz that they carry. My DVD shows basic chair with a tall skirt. The only difference is you’d fit all the way down and sew piping on the bottom instead of a skirt. So you’d get the basic idea. It’s not exactly the same, but you’d be able to accomplish the same thing. You can always call me if you have a question. IT’s actually easier/faster to not do a skirt.
